The cross season is well under way with two solid weekends of racing in the books. All summer it’s been #crossiscoming everywhere on social media, and then BAM it’s here and suddenly you wish you spent more time sorting out your gear, and less time dreaming of cyclocross. Or maybe that’s just me.
Early September an be a bit of a gamble weather wise, and while we saw some dry and dusty conditions in Vancouver and on the Island, the interior had some good ol cyclocross mud for their openers. You never know what you are going to get.
This weekend everyone gets to take a breather on Saturday and maybe do something non bike related to appease those family members that get ignored during cross season. Sunday however, it’s back on. If you want to race, and you are in the lower mainland, you will need to do a bit of travel, but it will be worth it.
Depending on your tolerance for rain and cold, the weather is either looking great, or looking a bit too warm. You will miss these warm days in a few months. Trust me.
Here’s what’s going on this weekend:
Cacti Cross – Sept 24
This weekend kicks off the 5 race BC Premiere Series with the first race in Kamloops, BC on Sunday. Cacti Cross will double as both a premiere series and part of the BC Interior Cyclocross series, so you have a chance to score points for both. The BC Interior series has a jam packed calendar this year and it’s worth getting out to check what’s going on if you can.
Info from the promoter:
This event will be both a BC Interior Cyclocross Race as well as a Cycling BC Premier Series Race. This means there are some slight idiosyncrasies compared to a normal series race… read on for details.
There will be THREE RACES and we will be running TWO CALL-UPS for each category (One call-up for BC Interior Cyclocross Series racers and one for BC Premier Series racers).

Moor Cross – Sept 24 – Redmond, WA.
This one is a bit of a drive from BC, but if you find yourself south of the border this weekend and you HAVE to get your cyclocross fix, you could do a lot worse. MFG always put on a top notch race with huge numbers in every category. Plus the course goes inside the velodrome. Not many races do that. Check out the map below
From the MFG site:
The most spectator friendly cyclocross course in the country. Bring your fast legs and your sharp cornering skills. Quick feet at the barriers and short run-ups will be a benefit.
Here’s a good recap video from last year’s race:
